@kamalaharris has been sworn in as the first woman in the presidential office. The first woman of color, the first biracial woman.

The ground has been broken to reshape what America looks like. But we can’t forget the moments that led us up to here.

We turn the page in a new chapter. But we still have the previous history to reckon with. The dark underbelly that we’ve ignored but now needs to be reckoned with if we have a chance to move forward.

So today we stand both hopeful and cautious. Looking forward to road ahead, but mindful of how easy it is to stumble and fall.

But still thankful that a might still remains

The Seminole nation has been withholding full benefits, medical care, and voting rights from their fellow Freedmen. LeEtta and the Seminole Freedmen are currently raising money for legal representation so they can petition federal courts to intervene and ensure the Freedmen regain their full benefits and rights.⠀

We have diminished Dr King’s legacy into that of a pacifist who asked for fairness.

He was an activist who demanded justice. Who fought for equality and whose methods exposed the violent and cruel nature of American society.

The fight for justice continues. And we do him honor to remember what he really stood for.
